My Father

My father passed away two years ago. Having him till I was 60 was a blessing. But like so many kids, I took having him around for granted. When I got into my twenties and started publishing books, he was my greatest fan. He told everyone about my books and always sent me copies to autograph for a secretary or someone he met on the golf course. I used to think of these as annoying but I wish I told him how much I appreciated him and how was always rooting for me.

My Dad was the youngest of seven kids and had a tough early life. But he was always a kind and funny man. He was always the life of the party and would help you out when you needed it. I had a great relationship with him but didn't start really understanding him till I was an adult and a father as well. If I am half the father to my own kids I am doing well.

But I miss him. It's hard not to be able to just call him. Both he and my mother are gone. I'm not sure what comes next but I am happy to think they are together.
